Paper mache mask help?
I’m trying to make the Phantom of the Opera mask with paper mache. Can it be done? How much flour and water are you supposed to mix to get the sticky right mixture?
nstructions:
No-cook paper mache:
To make this paper mache paste, simply mix together 1 part flour to 2 parts water. You will want it to be the consistency of thick glue, but you also want it to be runny and not thick like paste. Add more water or flour as necessary. Mix well to remove any lumps.
A few helpful tips I have read in regards to using this paste are:
If you live in an area with high humidity, add a few tablespoons of salt to help prevent mold.
If you don’t like the smell of the glue mixture you can add a few sprinkles of cinnamon or cinnamon to sweeten it up!
You should be able to store this glue in a covered bowl or jar, in the refrigerator, for a few days.
Cooked paper mache ( it’s a little stronger)
Instructions:
To make this paper mache paste, you need 1 part flour to 5 parts water. Start out by putting 4 parts water into a pot on the stove and bring it to a boil. While you are waiting for it to boil, mix 1 part flour to 1 part warm water. Beat this mixture briskly to remove lumps.
Once your pot of water is boiling, slowly stir in the water and flour mixture. Mix well and let it boil for 2 - 3 minutes. It should be smooth and have the constancy of thick glue. If necessary, you can add more water or glue in small amounts until you get the desired consistency.

Resin Paper Mache Paste Recipe
While this is not as easy to clean up or kid friendly as the No-Cook and Cooked paper mache paste recipes I share, this paper mache paste dries to a very hard finish to make your finished projects more durable. This paste is good to make projects you want to last for a long time, not for making a pinata!
Materials Needed:
1 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup Resin Glue Powder
4 Cups Water
Instructions:
To make this paper mache paste, start out by putting 3 cups of water in a pot and bring it to a boil. While you are waiting for it to boil, mix the 1 cup of flour and the 1/2 cup of powdered glue resin together. Slowly stir in 1 cup of very warm water. Once it is all blended together, beat this mixture briskly to remove lumps.
Once your pot of water is boiling, slowly stir in the flour mixture. Mix well and let it boil for 2 - 3 minutes or until it is clear and smooth.
A few helpful tips I have read in regards to using this paste are:
If you don’t like the smell of the glue mixture you can add a few sprinkles of cinnamon or cinnamon to sweeten it up!
I have read (but have not tried) that adding a few drops of oil of wintergreen can help make the paste last longer.
You should be able to store this glue in a covered bowl or jar, in the refrigerator, for a few days.
